300fps Gone for Good

Postby Liam M » Wed Apr 23, 2008 3:25 pm

So what dose everybody think now that the 300fps rule is gone for good in Australia? (assuming you have read the post in the announcements thread by Steve)....

Im freakin happy! Im glad to see the assocation has moved forward (although possibly not for the right reasons). Progress os progress though, and ill take it any which way it comes.

I think the bino ruling is also great. Just look at the positive reception it got on the poll here, surely the general opinion of the association wouldnt be too far off that.

Good goin ABA exec commitee :D

Ok from my experiance, i shoot a mathews that runs at 280fps, and i have had a heap of trouble with target butts stopping my arrows.... as for the 300fps you need to use quite a light arrow wich loses velocity very quickly, i shoot a heavyer arrow, that maintains down range velocity, which would you prefer???

The faster the bow the faster you miss i think.... :good:

Now that my bright orange xforce is sitting on my lap (yes, just arrived, not 5 minutes ago!), im happy its gone. Modern bows, at similar poundages and using heavier arrows to go slower will penetrate more than a fast, light arrow out of the same bow. Im all for removing the speed. I think the penetration issue isnt indicative of the speeds of modern bows, its the efficiency and improved cam profiles.

Personnally i prefer a slightly heavier arrow for targets and a light one for 3D.

James Park done some interesting tests on velocity of arrows.
If i remember correctly out to 50m arrows don't generally loose to much speed but at 90m the heavier arrows rules.

Yes a fast miss is still a miss and a slow one just takes longer but it also misses.

That might be true what james park said, he does seem to spend alot of time researching stuff instead of shooting....
but a slower heavier arrow is more accurate, than one going like the clappers...... i personaly shoot the same set up for all styles and i have not had any trouble with it..... shooting 300+fps doesnt make you a better shot.. IMO
